Young beginning dancers first learn how to clap their hands to the 8-bar beat of the music, properly stand ready to dance, balance on their toes, and the ways move forward, backward, and side to side - all the basic movements that make up the first 4 beginner Irish dances!
Games and fun music are incorporated to keep young minds and bodies entertained in this class. Older beginner dancers are progressed rapidly once they can demonstrate proficiency so they can be moved into a class that fits their age, ability, and social environment.

Oak Park Stage
This class focuses on practicing the first 4 soft shoe dances:
Reel, Light Jig, Slip Jig, and Single Jig. These dances are made up of hops, skips, and jumps and require a lot of physical energy as well as mental memorization.
We will also introduce hard shoe where students will learn how to create beats with their feet, specifically what we call a "treble". This section of the class requires focus, patience, and coordination to create the correct sounds with their feet.
Class is energetic, challenging, and FUN!

Intro to Irish Dance
WEDNESDAYS
10:00-11:00 AM
Westside Dance
$30
This is a class designed to build muscle memory for the basic footwork that makes up all 30 ceili (kay-lee) dances. After 4 classes, dancers should be able to skip forward and back, move side to side while exchanging places with a partner, as well as properly catching hands with people next to and across from them. Once these basic foundations have been mastered, you will be invited to join all our FUN social ceili events!
All Age - Social Ceili
MONTHLY
Location: TBD
Irish Ceili (kay-lee) dancing is a community event with live music and dancing, hosted at varied locations in Santa Barbara. Many of the dances are progressive, meaning you’ll dance first with one set of people, and then progress down the line to additional sets of people - encouraging you to meet and dance with multiple partners during the course of a tune!
The locations, dates, and times will be determined once enough dancers have completed the intro course and are ready to join a larger group!
